From free estimate to finished basement
Seven steps from your first call to your finished basement. Here's what to expect.
- 1
Tell us about your basement
Book online or call. We'll get back to you to find a time for your free estimate. Estimates happen every day, evenings too.
- 2
Free in-home estimate
An experienced local builder comes to your home, looks at the space, windows, plumbing and ceiling height, and hears what you want. Bring your ideas, or none at all. No obligation.
- 3
Your written quote
Your builder follows up with a written quote for your plan, showing what's included and an estimated schedule. Take the time you need to look it over.
- 4
Sign with your builder
If you decide to go ahead, you sign directly with the general contractor named in your quote.
- 5
Drawings and permits
Drawings are prepared and the permits your municipality requires are applied for, before any work starts.
- 6
Build and inspections
Framing, electrical, plumbing and heating come first, then inspections before the walls close, then drywall, flooring and finishes.
- 7
Final walkthrough
After the final inspection, you walk the finished space with your builder. Time to move in.

Questions about the process
Is the estimate really free?
Yes. The in-home estimate and the written quote cost nothing, and there's no obligation to go ahead.
Who do I sign the contract with?
With the independent general contractor who builds your basement. Their name is on your written quote.
Can I book an estimate in the evening or on a weekend?
Yes. Estimates happen every day, evenings too. We'll find a time that suits you.
Will I get a price at the estimate?
Your builder may give you a rough idea on the spot, but the number to go by is the written quote that follows, based on your plan and the finishes you choose.
Do I need to deal with the City?
Usually not. Your builder can prepare the drawings, apply for the permits and book the inspections.
